Yes, you can buy Bitcoin with ₹100 in India. You do not need to buy a whole Bitcoin. One Bitcoin divides into 100 million satoshis, so ₹100 buys a small number of sats at whatever the live price is. On Unocoin the minimum is even lower: you can start from ₹10 through a Systematic Buying Plan, with ₹0 SBP fees.
What you need is a free account, KYC with PAN and Aadhaar done inside the app, and rupees added by IMPS or NEFT. The IndiaBitcoin home page shows exactly how many sats ₹100 buys right now. And starting with a small amount is how I think most people should learn about Bitcoin: by owning a little, watching it, and seeing how they feel when the price moves.
The short answer
- Yes, ₹100 works. ₹10 works too, through an SBP.
- You get satoshis: 1 Bitcoin = 10 crore sats.
- Instant buy fee: 0.5% plus 18% GST on the fee.
- SBP fee: 0%.
- Buying is not taxed. Selling is, so keep your records.
What ₹100 buys, in sats
The number of sats depends on the price of Bitcoin at the moment you buy. The formula is simple: divide 10 crore by the rupee price of 1 Bitcoin, and multiply by 100.
Rather than give you a number that will be wrong by the time you read this, I will point you to the live counter on the home page. It shows Unocoin's live BTC buy price in rupees and how many sats ₹10, ₹100 and ₹1,000 buy right now. Refresh it later in the day and the number will be different. That is Bitcoin's volatility in one line.
Whatever the number is, it is a real amount of real Bitcoin, in your name. Not a game, not a token, not a share in a fund. Sats.
Instant buy vs SBP: the fee difference on small amounts
On small amounts, fees matter more than people expect.
Instant buy. On Unocoin the fee is 0.5%, plus 18% GST on the fee. On ₹100, 0.5% is 50 paise, and the GST on it is 9 paise. Small, but it comes out of every instant purchase. Unocoin's fee page shows the same calculation at a larger size: on ₹10,000, the fee is ₹50 and the GST ₹9, for ₹10,059 in total.
Systematic Buying Plan. SBP trades carry a 0% fee. So if you plan to buy small amounts regularly, an SBP keeps all of your ₹100 going into sats. You choose the amount, from ₹10, and the schedule: daily, weekly or monthly.
INR deposits on Unocoin are free. Your own bank may have its own rules for IMPS or NEFT, so check with them.
Why starting small is how you learn
I first bought Bitcoin when it was around 5 to 10 dollars, about 500 rupees. It was not a big bet. It was a way to own some, so I could learn what it was by holding it rather than by reading about it.
That is still the advice I give. Reading teaches you what Bitcoin is. Owning a small amount teaches you something no article can: how you react when the price falls 20% in a week. Some people find they do not care. Some find they cannot sleep. Better to learn which one you are with ₹100 than with ₹1,00,000.
A small first buy also lets you practise everything safely. Buying. Checking your balance. Setting up a plan. Maybe even sending a few sats to your own wallet, with zero-fee transfers on Unocoin, to see how self-custody works. Every mistake costs paise, not lakhs.
Step by step: your first ₹100
- Open an account. Download the Unocoin app or visit the site and sign up with your +91 mobile number. Free, no minimum balance.
- Complete KYC. Verify PAN and authenticate Aadhaar inside the app. Never share these, or your OTP, in a chat or call. No genuine support team will ask for your OTP or password.
- Add rupees. Send money by IMPS or NEFT from a bank account in your name.
- Buy. Either buy ₹100 instantly, or set up an SBP: for example ₹10 a day, ₹100 a week, or ₹100 a month.
- Check your sats. Look at your balance and note how many sats you received. That number is your starting point.
Where your ₹100 of Bitcoin sits
When you buy on Unocoin, your sats sit in your Unocoin account, and Unocoin holds the keys for you. Unocoin states that 95% of assets are kept in cold storage with multi-signature wallets. You can leave them there, keep adding to them with a plan, or move them to a wallet you control at any time with zero-fee transfers.
For a first ₹100, leaving it on the platform is usually the simplest choice while you learn. If you later want to try self-custody, a small amount is the perfect test: send a few sats to your own wallet, check they arrive, and practise keeping the recovery phrase safe. Write it on paper, keep it offline, never share it, and never type it into a website or message.
One thing to know about leaving a balance untouched for a long time: Unocoin's fee page says that since March 2023, inactive trading accounts carry a custodial fee of 0.0001 BTC per month, inclusive of GST. Active trading accounts are not charged it. Read the fee page so there are no surprises. On a very small balance, that kind of fee is a bigger share of what you hold, which is one more reason to know the schedule before you start.
Can you sell small amounts too?
Yes, platforms let you sell small amounts, within their minimums. Before you sell, know the tax rules. Profit on a sale is taxed at a flat 30% plus 4% cess on the tax, and only your cost of acquisition is deductible. 1% TDS is deducted on the sale value once your sales in the financial year cross ₹50,000 for specified persons, broadly individuals and HUFs below the audit limits, or ₹10,000 for others. Losses cannot be set off against other income. Every sale goes into Schedule VDA of your return.
So even small sales need records. Keep your statement of buys and sells. The TDS guide explains the thresholds and how to claim TDS back, and the Income-tax Act, 2025 renumbers these sections from 1 April 2026, so confirm the details with a CA.
What ₹100 will not do
It will not make you rich, and I will not do any "what if it grows" maths for you. Nobody knows what Bitcoin's price will do. Anyone who shows you a chart of ₹100 turning into lakhs is selling a story.
What ₹100 will do is turn Bitcoin from something you have heard about into something you hold. Crypto is unregulated in India and can be highly risky, and there may be no regulatory recourse for loss. Start with an amount you would not miss, learn, and decide from experience.
